I have literally had no time to do a blog recently, we have all been flat out here. The Ascot catalogue has been out for over a week and Daisy still has not seen it, thats how busy we have been! Normally it is out an hour and she is halfway through!
So since my last blog we have had a few runners, Under Review headed to Wolverhampton with Stephen Hero, Under Review had previously had massive issues with jumping out the stalls slowly and not travelling in his races so after nine months off and a lot of TLC we were delighted to see him jump out first and lead the way into the straight only to get a little tired in the last furlong, not unreasonable. We look forward to his next run where he will have come on a lot, his confidence has grown at home since his run, there are races to be won for sure. Stephen ran in the feature race and brought home some prize money which was great, he wasnt keen on the all weather and coughed a lot after, but it was a good initial run for him to freshen him up. He will now go back jumping, he has settled in well and is starting to look well.
Sky Watch and Jopaan headed to Plumpton the next day, Jopaan was having his introductory run over hurdles, he will have three quick runs for a mark and then see how he gets on. He was a little twitchy at the start but once out on the track he jumped off and jumped very well. Sky Watch was having his first run over fences for us, having bled on his last start for Warren over fences it was all about confidence building for him. Tom Garner gave him a great ride and he jumped superbly to finish a running on 4th. He really needs slightly softer ground and his main target this winter will be the Devon National at Exeter. He came back happy, no bleeding and in great form the next day. We believe once he gets his head in front he will be away.
We are very busy in the yard with the largest amount of horses we have ever had in work, but its great and we wouldnt have it any other way. The barns are coming together slowly, and with recently purchasing some more land we have been sorting that out and making that look tidy, its another great asset to the yard.
Last week Shanandoa, Follow The Tracks, Tuffstuff & an unnamed 4yr old headed to Kempton to gallop, Gavin rode Shanandoa and the unnamed while Daisy rode the other two, all four working superbly, Shanandoa breezed passed her lead with ease and she would still be 6 weeks off a run. Very exciting!
Follow The Tracks is nearly ready, although there are suitable races coming up we will wait for the ground, it must have soft in the description. Of the others they are ticking over nicely and will all be running within the next couple of months.
Tom Garner & Ben Ffrench Davis were in schooling last week, once again Tom fell off but all was good and the horses jumped very well, they were sent on their way with some rather large homemade breakfast rolls so they were delighted!
Not sure on runners as quite a few are waiting for some rain, although when we get it they will be ready which is great.
I will update a little sooner next time, I hope you all have a good week and enjoy the sun!
