In the last week or so we have been fairly busy, although we have had no runners we have been flat out in the yard. We have a mile and a half of running rail to put up so most of the week has been spent doing that. We got it from Sandown and Epsom, so its proper racecourse rail and the gallops are stating to look very smart here now! The lunge ring is looking good and the new barn is getting there, we also resurfaced down past the walker and to the gallops so there is no muddy feet now which is great!
Our new arrival 'George' (Green Du Ciel) is a lovely old chap and is everyones friend, he will be starting out on the flat before he sets out for a winter campaign under NH rules. He will be ridden by his owners daughter Hattie in an amateurs race at Lingfield on Wednesday, he will come on a lot for the run as he hasn't run for well over a year and it will also be on the sharp side for him, but its a good place for him to start and to give Hattie some more experience. He seems in good heart and thoroughly enjoyed going through the stalls on Friday!
Another one that hasn't run for a long time is Follow The Tracks, we got him as a weak, backward 5yr old after winning his point, he ran with great credit in his bumper before gaining some experience over hurdles, unfortunately when making his handicap debut on heavy ground at Ffos Las last October he pulled up lame and had damage to both his front legs. He was scanned, turned away and has now come back a hand bigger, a lot wider and looks a very nice individual! He is entered for Wincanton on Thursday over 2m4f, a trip that will be on the short side but the ground should be ok for him, he jumps well and we just want him to have a safe round and show there is something to work on. The last time we had runners at Wincanton we had a double!! He runs in the Racing Club colours, so hopefully he can give them lots of fun this winter!
Tuffstuff was entered up at Cheltenham for today but did not run as we feel he will be more suited by a flatter track. He galloped around Kempton Park the other day with Gavin Sheehan and Daisy was on Follow The Tracks. They both finished together and they were both very pleased with their horses. Gavin reported that Tuffstuff is a 'serious' horse, we cannot wait to run him.
Madam Be and In The Crowd have had a quiet time of it but are back in full work and its full steam ahead to their next runs. Norfolk Sky and Shanandoa are cantering away nicely, Norfolk Sky is fairly lively at the minute and Daisy is delighted to have her back in.
Martys Magic and Castlemorris King are having a great time on their winter break and are both very fat and very fluffy!
It was Catrionas birthday this week....19! She now thinks she is getting pretty old, so we had cake and presents in the morning and then we all went out for dinner and the whole restaurant sung to her, much to her embarrassment! It was funny!
I shall update after this weeks runners.
