Busier Than Ever.....

We are now busier than we have ever been, we were short of staff for a couple of weeks but are now back to a reasonable number and its all systems go for the spring! We now have a solid team of horses ranging from sprinters to three and a half mile chasers, which is great to have such variety. One thing we love here at Tall Trees is our gallops, no horse has to do the same exercise, the sprinters do not even go on the same part of the gallop as the chasers, its great to be able to be successfull with such different types. The horses are happy, healthy and we are hopeful of a good spring, it is normally our time of year, so fingers crossed!

Plenty of runners in the last couple of weeks, Lambs Cross headed back to Towcester for a step up in trip, having been known as very inconsistent and a poor jumper it was great to see him back up his first run to finish a solid 4th, just getting tired late on and being outstayed by genuine 3 mile chasers. He is a very forward horse and behaves like a proper 2 miler chaser, I think he will run very well next time.

We had four runners last Wednesday, Shanandoa headed to Wincanton to get her season back on track, and she did brilliantly, hating the ground but jumping great and running all the way to the line to finish 3rd to two very promising types, on better ground she would have gone much closer, I am expecting her to also be very close next time, she has come out the race very well.

Three at Kempton that night as well, the legend that is Castlemorris King was making his return to action after 17 months off, he was always going to come on for the run and after travelling very well he just tired in the last two furlongs, it was fantastic to see him back on the track, he is a horse that every yard needs, he never lets you down and is a high class horse. He holds an entry for the County Hurdle on Gold Cup day, something that for a yard our size is pretty special, it will be touch and go as to whether he gets in but if not then he will head to Aintree for a grade three hurdle. Very exciting!

Head Space has to be the unluckiest horse in training, having had three runs for us and being second three times we were sure of a good run, but after breaking well Shane Kelly on the odds on favourite came right across us and nearly knocked us sideways, thankfully he got a 6 day ban, Luke Morris nearly unseated and they did well to stay intact, then forced widest of all he still came with his customry late, blistering run to just get beaten in a photo for 3rd! Gutted once again, his turn has to be soon. Another known for being so inconsistent, it is great his form now reads 2224 in his starts for us.

Lady Mcguffy was expected to run very well having worked super the Saturday before, but unfortunately she faded in the last furlong, slightly disappointed but it turns out she came back very sore and must have pulled something, there will be more days for her I am sure.

Follow The Tracks had a nice clear round on just his second start over fences to finish 5th at Warwick, we will now try a marathon trip with him and see how he fares.

A promising run from a new runner, Venture Lagertha, she should have finished a lot closer, maybe with a different kind of ride as she was very keen for over a mile and a half, but she galloped all the way to the line and should make a reasonable jumper in time, a very big, strapping mare.

I think we have plenty of runners in the next couple of weeks, all with good chances I think.

We picked up two stunning mares at the last Tattersalls Ascot sale, a three year old filly, very well bred and standing at 17h, she will be a force to be reckoned with in mares juvenille hurdles later in the summer, she is the most gorgeous looking filly and is for sale to stay in the yard, but I must warn you when she wins her Maiden by 20l she will be a lot more money so dont miss out!

Also we picked up a very neat looking mare, a 5yr old Scorpion, her dam has had one runner so far that has won two bumpers from four starts, we hold her in high regard and feel she should do well in mares bumpers through the summer and into the autumn. She is also for sale to stay in the yard. Please do get in touch regards either of these smart fillies.

We also picked up another new horse last week, a yearling filly by Denounce, she will be broken and we look forward to her in the coming year.

So plenty going on, we are looking for part time riders for 6 mornings a week so if you are interested do get in touch, other than that I will update in a couple of weeks after some more runners.

Many Thanks for reading!
