A great week last week, and we had best start with our little star Shanandoa heading to Lingfield for the bumper on Tuesday.
This was her first start for her new owners, Excel Racing, headed by Paul Fisher & Charlie Austin, they had only acquired her the previous week and their timing could not have been much better. Only five runners but the evening before and the morning of the race the hot, odds on favourite was a Nicky Henderson trained, Potensis owned and Noel Fehily ridden, £58,000 Kings Theatre gelding....and what? Little Dodo didn't know any of that, and after taking favouritism near the off she was ridden very cold by the super cool Gavin Sheehan, produced widest of all into the straight she cruised from last to first, just toying with the Henderson gelding. She won very 'cleverly' as Racing Post quoted, and would have done more in a bit of work at home. We were delighted for her as after two seconds in bumpers in decent races she is improving all the time and won that very readily. What a welcome to Excel, a lot of the owners made it to Lingfield to see her which was great. She was the centre of many photographs! A big well done to everyone at home, especially Georgie who looks after her every day, and has done since we got her. Heres to plenty more success with her, she will now go hurdling.
Also on Tuesday Tuffstuff headed to Southwell, Daisy & Katrina took him up on Monday afternoon as its a fair drive and we always feel travelling that far cant be good for them just a couple of hours before they run, so he had a good journey up and a good nights sleep. He had the burden of top weight which wasn't ideal, but he ran ok to finish 4th, this was a marked improvement on his last run, which we were confident would be the case anyway. After having a chat with his owner, Mr Aplin, afterwards we decided that a change of scenery may be an option for him, we have had him nearly four years now, so as the owner also has horses with another trainer, he is off up there to have a go. We wish him the best of luck with him & look forward to finding him something else to have with us! Daisy will miss Stuffy I am sure as he was one of her favourite rides!
Some more great news, a new owner and lots of new horses!! Brilliant! We now give a warm welcome to Kevin & Kieran O'Toole, an owner/breeder set up from Ireland. They have lots of very nicely bred horses and have had plenty of winners in Ireland, they have now decided to send a few over to England and chose us, which is great, they have sent us over three mares to start off with, a point to point mare, Ann Maries Reject, she doesnt stay three miles in points but once handicapped will be winning races I am sure. Caniver Queen, she has had two educational runs in maiden hurdles but could be more of a flat prospect, so she could be interesting, last but by far means least is a huge, strapping mare, Venture Lagertha, who is unraced but looks a lovely sort. They will all be out on the track soon.
A quick review on the rest of them.....Follow The Tracks & Stephen Hero head to Taunton next week, Sky Watch had an easy week, plans not confirmed for him yet, Norfolk Sky, Madam Be, Castlemorris King, Under Review, and Big Mac are cantering away nicely, quite fresh though, the girls are having to sit tight at the moment! Jopaan is also back cantering after having a tinker with his wind two weeks ago, that should help him a lot.
We will be off to Ascot sales on Monday, a place we have had much success, having now bought 7 individual winners from them. If you are at all interested in coming there to meet us, or would like us to look at one or two for you please do get in touch.
Many Thanks for reading and I will update after the sales & Taunton.
