After the last blog we were heading up to Doncaster Sales for their annual two day horses in training sale.
We came close on the first day, just missing out on a couple of Shadwell and Darley horses. The market was very strong and the general vibe from the sale was that it was very hard to buy something. With a massive foreign client base the majority of the flat horses sold abroad. With a couple not looking as we expected we ended the first day looking forward to the second, where the majority were either store horses or jumpers. Again a few not looking as we had hoped and a couple selling for more than they were worth, we were half way through the day when we had just our last few to look at.
A horse we knew quite well having run against him once or twice and seeing him running (Castlemorris King beat him in the listed summer hurdle last year), Stephen Hero. A lovely looking horse from Dan Skeltons, a six time winner, three on the flat, two over hurdles and once over fences, all by the age of 5! We were very keen on him and managed to buy him, bidding just once we saw them all off.
He travelled home like a star and has settled in very well, he doesnt look that great at the moment, but that is something we can work on. He is fit and well enough and had a nice canter over a mile and a half today. He will probably have a spin on the flat before going jumping on suitable ground. We are delighted to have got him and he is another quality addition to the yard, being rated 130, he has a fair engine!
Everything else is going very well. Under Review is set for his yard debut at Bath next week, I must update his picture on the 'Horses In Training' page because that was taken when we first got him and he looks quite awful, he now looks brilliant, I am sure you will all agree when I put the new one up.
Sky Watch & Follow The Tracks had a strong bit of work this morning and they are going well. They will be running soon.
Tuffstuff had his teeth done this morning, but is going well and will also be running toward the end of the month, along with Jopaan.
Castlemorris King is coming along very well, as he always does. Shanandoa is in fine form, her work has just been stepped up a little, she looks great and is pleasing us.
We have been out fixing the schooling ground this week, adding another row of hurdles and fixing up the wings, it looks great. We have Tom Garner and Gaving Sheehan in next week to give them all a good school which we are looking forward to, the first of the season!
Many thanks for reading once again!
