Its that time of year where everyone has a bit more time on their hands I find, maybe the longer days and nice weather (sometimes!) is a big contributing factor!
We had a very busy winter and spring and it kind of all just rolls into one unless you keep on top of it all so it has been really good of late to be able to make changes, sort stuff out and revamp! That has been the case for the yard, horses, staff & owners! We have cut down some stock, as any smaller trainer will tell you they have several horses in that they just know aren't capable of winning races, so what is the point in keeping them when we can find them some lovely homes doing something else they can enjoy. We still have a couple of horses looking for new homes, so please get in touch to see if we could have anything suitable. 07975754622.
The yard is getting all the needed summer jobs done, painting, de cobwebbing, fencing, paddocks cut, rolled, harrowed etc. As much as we keep on top of it during the winter it gets done properly this time of year.
We have some cracking young horses coming through and I cannot wait to get them on the track, both NH & flat, some of these are also still for sale.
We had the annual BBRC (Brian Barr Racing Club) owners morning and BBQ last weekend which had a very good turnout considering the club has been going about a month! Owners got the chance to come up to the yard in the morning and have a look round as well as watching all the club horses plus some others go out to exercise, with lots of tea and cake on the go everyone then retired for lunch before coming back in the evening for a great BBQ, lots of food, music, alcohol and a lot of fun! So thank you to all the members who came and hopefully see you all next week back at the races. The next BBRC owners day will be before Christmas where we will all get together for some mince pies and mulled wine on the gallops! Although there will be plenty of yard visits in between, we still have plenty of space available in the club and with three horses running at any one time with all the added extras it really is great value at £200 for 6 months, check out our Racing Club page for more.
We will be attending Tattersalls July sale at Newmarket and currently have an extensive list to look at from useful sprinters to potential juvenile hurdlers, again please get in touch if we can be of any assitance.
We have a very exciting week coming up with our very own Jess Wareham riding in her very first race at Newton Abbot on Friday! It is the Racing Welfare Charity Race and although very nervous she is very excited! Most people reading this will know Jess and how hard she works all year round and how dedicated she is to this team, so much so she was shortlisted into the final ten for the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff awards so please do give generously to her Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jessica-wareham to help her reach her target!
We have had a few runners in the last couple of weeks, a lot of them reaching the frame but not quiet getting their heads in front but happy, healthy horses none the less and their turn isnt far away. Toolatetodelegate was very unlucky this week at Brighton to meet a lot of trouble but got into the placings, Gates Pass ran a cracker after setting almighty fractions from the front at Bath and the legend that is Blaine ran his best race of the year so far with a fast finishing second also at Bath. Exciting times to come from these as well as the other horses here at present. This is the right time to join our team, we have a fantastic team of staff, infact for an industry struggling for staff we are almost overstaffed which is great, a nice bunch of horses for sale and some empty stables waiting for some new owners and horses!
